Mr. Alan Ray Clifton, 74, of Corning, AR., passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge, AR. Mr. Clifton was born in Newport, AR., on August 2, 1939. He was a farmer, he enjoyed woodworking, antique John Deere tractors and spending time with his grandchildren. He proudly served his country as a member of the Arkansas National Guard, he enlisted as a private, was soon thereafter accepted into Officer Candidacy School, he retired after 21 years of faithful service with the rank of Major. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Corning.
He married his wife of 54 years Shirley Lee (Barton) Clifton on March 20, 1960. She survives, other survivors include three daughters Cindy Davis of Corning, AR., Sherry Ray of Perryville, MO., Patricia Goostree of Joelton, TN.; one son Jim Clifton of Corning, AR.; three brothers Ronnie Clifton of Hartsville, MO., Ralph Clifton of Piggott, AR., Freddie Clifton of Rector, AR.; one sister Carol Horton of Marmaduke, AR.; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ira Freemont and Gertrude (Banks) Clifton and one brother Frank Miller.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 4:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Ann Ferris officiating.
