Edith Bernice George

Bernice died in her home on Monday, September 16, 2019. She was born in Knob, AR., to Ezra L. Bartlett and Nannie Smith Bartlett on January 11, 1921.

She met the love of her life, Thomas George, in Corning, AR., and they were married June 30, 1941 at the family home in Knob, AR. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2013.

Before she married she had worked at Irby Funeral Home, Woods Department Store, and mostly at the family grocery store in Knob. When Thomas returned home from being wounded in Normandy, France, they lived in Jackson, MS, where he was recuperating from hand, arm, and shoulder wounds during invasions in France. She worked at JC Penney for two years while he was in the hospital. She was a homemaker, loved family gatherings where there was lots of music and singing. She loved to play the piano and organ, in which she played beautifully.

They returned to Corning and went in to the Auto Parts business where it still stands today, on the corner of Front Street, now under the management of their son Tommy and grandson Mark George.

She leaves her one son Tommy George and wife Brenda of Corning, AR.; five grandsons Mark George and wife Leilani, David George and wife Chrissy, Scott George and wife Carmen, Dee George and wife Brandy, Kyle George and wife Brittany; one sister Anna Eaton of Batesville, AR.; 12 great-grandchildren Lindsey (George) Williams, Rachel (George) Arnold, Seth George, Logan Hart, Ally (George) Cox, Kylie, Riley, Sydney, Kassie, Addison, Jaggar and Blaze George; 2 great-great-grandchildren Brooks Williams and Peyton Arnold; nieces Kari Foster, Sharon Bartlett, Lisa (Bartlett) Davis, Leigh Ann (Bartlett) Keller; nephews Dan Bell and Carl Bell; as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents and dear husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Ophelia Bartlett and Alice Mayzell (Bartlett) Bell; two brothers James “Jim” Bartlett Sr. and John Bartlett; two brothers-in-law Quesen Bell and Cecil Eaton “Jr.”; two nephews John Bartlett Jr., and George E. Bartlett; one niece Judith (Bell) Crumby; two aunts and uncles and many relatives and friends.
