Mr. Chloe Lamar Masterson spent over 90 years on this earth. His soul was set free on Friday, February 19, 2016 as he died peacefully at his daughter's home where he had been cared for since 2010.
A former long-time resident of Corning, AR., Mr. Masterson was born on October 20, 1925 in Palatka, AR., on the homestead purchased by his great-grandfather, Robert Jackson Masterson, just after the Civil War.
Chloe was a retired carpenter and furniture designer employed for many years by Harts of Arkansas. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially tinkering in the garage. In his younger years he was an avid bowler. Chloe graduated from Corning High School, then during World War II he proudly served his country as a Merchant Marine. While living in Corning, he was an active member of the Corning Church of Christ.
In 1948, he married a local girl, Joann Button (now deceased). They had one daughter, Judy. After a few years farming the family moved to St. Louis, MO. He and Joann divorced in 1965.
In the early 1970s he returned to his hometown where he courted Fay (Roberson) Cochran, widow of Bink Cochran. They remained happily married four decades until the effects of Alzheimer's Disease took its toll and it became clear that separate care arrangements were necessary.
Chloe was preceded in death by his parents Fil and Stella (Arnold) Masterson, his younger sister Linda Geist and stepson James Cochran.
His wife of 40 years Fay Masterson survives. Relatives mourning his passing include his daughter, Judy and husband Charles Blandino of Saint Peters, MO.; stepchildren, Pat Weston of Lowell, AR.; Nancy and husband Butch Davidson of Lowell, AR.; one brother, Larry Masterson and wife Linda of Corning, AR.; nephews, Terry Masterson and wife Lynn Masterson also of Corning, AR., Ted Geist of Centennial, CO.; neices, Patti and husband Tim Wright of Tishomingo, MS., and Gretchen and husband Dan Wilkinson of Centennial, CO. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, cousins, great nieces and nephews and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Earl Ladyman officiating. Burial will follow the service at Corning Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
