Clarence "Sonny" Guthrey

Mr. Clarence Richard (Sonny) Guthrey passed from this life on January 4, 2023 at the age of 89 years. He was born on November 2, 1933, to Firgus William Guthrey and Lela L. Morgan Guthrey. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bud Guthrey.

Known to his friends as Sonny and by also his CB handle, “Cockleburr”, he was a lifetime farmer in the Heelstring community. He also held the title of Honorary Mayor of Heelstring. You knew you were his friend if he teased you. Along with teasing, he enjoyed gardening and fishing. In 2012 he and his family were among the first farms recognized with the Arkansas Century Farm Program award having settled the land in 1892. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the nurses and staff with The Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House and all the hospice nurses who provided care, comfort, and dignity.

On April 2, 1953, he married the love of his life, Estel Louise Huddleston Guthrey. She survives along with their sons, Dick (Janna) Guthrey of Pocahontas, AR., and Carl (Kathy) Guthrey of Jonesboro, AR.; grandsons, Michael (Hannah) Guthrey of Jonesboro, AR., and Dr. Caleb (Jordan) Guthrey of Little Rock, AR.; granddaughter Michelle Guthrey Tracy and great-granddaughters Lauryn Ellie Guthrey and Logan Brooke Guthrey. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Theresa Hurst, Cheryl Parker, Cindy Williams, Scott Guthrey, and Joey Guthrey.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2:00 PM with Bro. Roger Hovis presiding. Interment will follow the services in the Corning Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are his grandsons Caleb and Michael Guthrey, nephew Scott Guthrey, Jerry Yancy, Fred Wheeler, and Dennis Woolard. Honorary pallbearers are Burton Eddington and David Wilson.
