Daniel Joe "Dan" Plemons entered his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Mobley-Groesbeck Funeral Service of Sand Springs. A funeral service celebrating Dan's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Angus Church. Family and friends are invited to greet the family during the viewing from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. before the service at the church.
Dan was born on June 5, 1941, in Sweetwater, Tennessee, to James Gilbert Plemons and Hazel Elizabeth (Allen) Plemons. He grew up in Sweetwater, where he enjoyed playing football. Following high school, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War.
On May 6, 1967, during a leave before being stationed in Hawaii, Dan attended a going-away party where he met the love of his life, Sharon Alberta Thornton. The two were engaged the very next day and married on October 6, 1967, in Nashville, Tennessee. They settled in Tennessee and worked side by side running Dan’s Home Repair business for ten years. Dan later joined Home Depot, where he played a key role in opening the first Home Depot store in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and went on to open three more stores across the state, as well as two in Kentucky before retiring.
Dan was a man of many talents and interests. He loved playing golf, and even achieved the rare feat of a hole-in-one. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed woodworking, and found great joy in writing poetry. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
A man of faith, Dan was an active member of Antioch United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, First Baptist Church in Corning, Arkansas, and most recently, Angus Church in Sand Springs.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Plemons; and his siblings: James Plemons and wife, Betty Jo, Billy Plemons and wife, Joyce, and Judy Markland and husband, Tim. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sharon; his children: Deirdre Darlene White and husband, Chris, of Louisville, KY; Daniele Britton and husband, Preston, of Sand Springs; and Daniel Plemons and wife, Emily, of Ashdown, AR. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Michael Marino, Amanda Allen, Maegan Britton, Dalton Britton, Madison Plemons, Grady Plemons, Piper Plemons, and Arynn Plemons, as well as great-grandchildren: Jackson, Rachael, Scarlett, and Salem, who is expected to arrive any day.
Dan will be remembered as a spiritual, creative, and loving man who worked hard and loved deeply. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
