Mr. David Edwards Staggs, 79, of Corning, AR., passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott, AR. Mr. Staggs was born in Hickoria, AR., on May 1, 1937. He was retired from Atwood Vacuum Machine Company. He enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, and spending time with family. He was of the General Baptist faith and enjoyed going to church.
He married his wife Arveda (Melton) Staggs on September 6, 2008. She survives, other survivors are his daughter Ronda and her husband Craig Freeman of Wappapello, MO.; two step-children Farris Beecher of Coon Island, MO., Lana Nelson of McDougal, AR.; one brother Sammy Staggs of Stillman Valley, IL.; three sisters Lola Sterling of Union, MO., Lela Hutchison of Poplar Bluff, MO., Vercie Staggs of Springfield, MO.; five grandchildren Donna, Angela, Pamela, Sonya, Ashley; and 14 great-grandchildren including Deron, Ayden, Dakota, Lindsey, Aubrey, Ashlynn, Brayden, Kristopher, Shane, and Sydney.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Zelma Staggs; his parents Everett Lee and Mary Katherine (Sherrill) Staggs; three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Herbert Ellis officiating. Burial will follow the services at Cantwell Cemetery near Corning. Visitation will be held Monday, August 22, 2016 from 12:00 PM until the time of service.
