“A day without laughter is a day wasted.” Charlie Chaplin

Whether with a group of friends at the bowling alley or standing among strangers around the tee
box at the golf course, Doug could be found “shootin’ the bull” by sharing a funny story or the
latest joke he had heard; all for a laugh from everyone.  He was always ready with a great
punch line or even just a one liner.  For Doug, laughter was truly his best medicine. By keeping
a smile on his face and gathering a chuckle or two from friends, Doug embraced the quote from
Victor Hugo, “Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.”

Doug’s favorite pastimes were golf and bowling. Doug spent his life keeping the sport of bowling
alive by traveling the country repairing bowling equipment and dismantling & staging bowling
alleys. In his younger days, Doug, along with his dad, competed in bowling tournaments on the
Pro-Amatueur Bowling Circuit throughout the midwest.  Racking up prize money but also
increasing the tally marks that represent his many perfect 300 games.  Although he spent his
lifetime working at his hobby, he often reflected on his days on the farm with his dad.  A farmer
at heart, he never forgot where he came from and made the effort to be a part of the harvest
each year by offering to drive a grain truck or simply enjoying a ride around the field on the
combine.
