Earnest R. Atkisson

Mr. Earnest Atkisson, 79, of Poplar Bluff, MO. formerly of Corning, AR. passed away Friday, June 18, 2010 at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. Mr. Atkisson was born in Corning, AR. He was a retired farmer, and was a United States Army Veteran, he proudly served during the Korean War and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He married his wife Marvell (Reynolds) Atkisson on September 20, 1950, she survives. Other survivors include son Steve Atkisson and wife Sherri of Thayer, MO.; daughter Susan and husband Stan Harris of Poplar Bluff, MO.; sister Nona Belle Banks of Corning, AR.; Six Grandchildren and Fifteen Great- Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Blache (Wertenburger) Atkisson; four brothers Wilbert, Frank, Dale and Laverle; three sisters Geralene, Nellie and Glenna.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday, June 21, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Steve Patterson and J.D. Passmore officiating. Burial will follow the service in Richwoods Cemetery in Corning, AR. Public visitation will be Sunday, June 20, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
