Parma

Pastor Elzie Jerome “Sonny” Quinn, 76, of Parma, MO., passed from the loving hands of his wife into the outreached hands of his Savior Friday, June 8, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Pastor Quinn was born in Hayti, MO., on December 10, 1941.  He was a lifelong pastor and missionary. He loved preaching, witnessing, studying the Bible, fishing, reading, playing chess and scrabble.

He preached his first sermon at age 13, his subject matter was “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle” but he was so nervous he stated all throughout the sermon “It is easier for a camel to pass though the needle of an eye…” That was the first of thousands of sermons he would preach all over the world. He pastored for 55 years, beginning at Dry Bayou Pentecost Church at age 18 for 9 years, then 9 years at Coon Island Pentecostal Church, moved his family and ministry to Visalia, CA., and pastored for 37 years at First Jesus Name Church of Cameron Creek, recently moving back to Missouri he began to pastor once again the Coon Island Pentecostal Church until his homegoing.

He made many missionary trips, visiting Mexico, Russia, China, Bangladesh, India, Jordan, the Philippines and Israel. He smuggled Bibles into communist China and into Russia before communism fell, there he handed out Bibles at the Lord’s direction in the middle of Red Square, many of them to armed soldiers in uniform who received them with tears in their eyes. On one trip to Israel he was privileged to preach in a boat on the Sea of Galilee. Pastor Quinn was a witness of Christ everywhere he was, often sharing the grace of God to store clerks, waiters and waitresses, nurses, doctors, bank tellers and just anyone and everyone else he would meet, no matter the place or their station in life.

He was ordained in 1960 by the late Rev. B.M. Howell; while pastoring full-time he also served several years as Mission Secretary and 8 years as Vice-Chairman of the Associated Brotherhood of Christians; and more than a decade as chairman of the Apostolic World Wide Missions.

He married his wife and helpmeet of 59 years Mrs. Rose Conlee "Connie" (Redden) Quinn on November 24, 1958. She survives, other survivors include his six children Anthony Quinn and wife Linda of Gideon, MO., Elaine and husband Herbert Ellis of Corning, AR., David Quinn and wife June of Parma, MO., Patricia and husband Leon Smith of Visalia, CA., Kevin Quinn and wife Allegra of Visalia, CA., Danny Quinn and wife Erin of Farmersville, CA.; four brothers Paul Quinn, Billy Quinn, Rodney Quinn, Bobby Quinn; sister Joann Gaines; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces, other relatives and multitude of friends.
