Mrs. Ercell M. Spicer, 95, of Corning, AR., went to her heavenly home on Thursday, April 5, 2018. She was born on October 13, 1922 in Rector, AR. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Spicer, daughter, Donna Day Roofe, brother, Gerayne Vowell and parents, Mr. Ott and Mrs. Nomer (Chapman) Vowell. She is survived by her son, Rick Spicer (Cecile Blucker), of Little Rock, AR.; grandson, John Howard Day of Corning, AR.; and two granddaughters, Amy Spicer Martin and Christy Spicer of Atlanta, GA., and three great-grandchildren.
Ercell had quite the adventurous life after graduating high school in 1940 and leaving the farm. She worked at the Piggott Federal AAA office before moving to Detroit and Saint Louis to work in the WWII war effort as a Rosie Riveter girl churning out warplanes. After her factory work, she taught school which was a job she truly enjoyed.
She and Howard were married in April 1947. They moved from Piggott to Corning in 1963 to run Clay County Propane where she served as the Business Office Manager.
Ercell was quite the crafter and loved needlework of all types, especially crocheting and embroidery, and loved making quilts.
She was active in Eastern Star in Corning and Piggott and served in various roles, including Worthy Grand Matron.
She loved the outdoors and gardening. She was still working in her yard when she was in her late 80’s. She was a member of First General Baptist Church in Corning. She loved to sing and loved fellowshipping with other church members. She maintained a keen sense of humor, often surprising people with her humor. With her sense of humor, she has probably already asked the Lord what took him so long.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Josh Raspberry officiating. Burial will follow the services at Woodlawn Heights Cemetery in Rector, AR. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
