Major Freddy C. Russell, aged 84, passed away at his home in Corning, Arkansas, on March 31, 2026. Born on October 25, 1941, in Tolleson, Arizona, Freddie led a life marked by steadfast dedication both in service to his country and in his personal pursuits.
Freddy proudly served in the United States Navy and the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Major. His naval service included tours in Japan, Vietnam, and Italy. After leaving the Navy, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Arkansas State University, where he also completed Advanced ROTC and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. His military journey included assignments at Fort Lee, Fort Leonardwood, the 1st Infantry Division in Germany, Fort Campbell, and the 89th ARCOM in Kansas City, reflecting his unwavering commitment to duty.
Outside of his distinguished service, Freddy found joy in simple pleasures such as fishing and attending movies, activities that provided him with relaxation and happiness over the years.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Julie Russell of Massillon, Ohio, and Susan Russell of Myrtle, Missouri; his sister, Brenda, and her husband, Tommy George of Corning, Arkansas; as well as three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom held a cherished place in his life.
Freddy was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Wesley and Jewell Leona (Baccus) Russell, whose legacy lives on through him.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Corning Cemetery, with Herbert Ellis officiating. Military honors will be presented to honor his service.
Major Freddy C. Russell’s life was a testament to service, family, and the appreciation of life’s simple joys. He will be fondly remembered with respect and affection by all who knew him.
