Gary Day Garland of Corning died on Thursday, December 3rd, 2020 at Corning Therapy and Living Center at the age of 67.

He was born on June 3, 1953 to Dorothy Day Garland and W.T. Garland, who preceded him in death. Gary was a 1971 graduate of Corning High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from the University of Arkansas. As an undergraduate, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and played trumpet in the University of Arkansas Razorback Marching Band. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law and opened his law practice in Corning in 1981. Gary was a past juvenile judge for Clay County, former City Attorney for the City of Corning, and former Deputy Prosecutor for Clay County. He was a longtime member of the Arkansas Bar Association and served as the attorney for Clay County Electric Cooperative for many years.

Gary was also active in civic service, serving as a past president of the Corning Lions Club and as a member and past president of the Corning School Board.

He married his wife, Renee, in 2010. She survives.

He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, enjoying annual pheasant hunting trips to South Dakota with a group of close friends for many years, as well as enjoying duck and dove hunts closer to home. His beloved golden retrievers, Dodge and Viper, were his steadfast loyal companions. Gary was also the biggest fan the Fourth of July has ever known and loved a good fireworks show.

In addition to his wife Renee, survivors include brother, Alan Garland and wife Dana of Miromar Lakes, Florida; daughter, Sara Garland of Jonesboro; son, Grant Garland and wife Gilia of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Chelsea Bauschlicher, husband Chris, and son Boone of Corning; his stepmother Sue Garland of Jonesboro; mother in-law Betty Bowers of Corning; brother in-law, Doin Bowers and wife Lisa of Paragould; mother of Sara and Grant, Vicki Barber Garland; nephew Trey Bowers, wife Christian, and sons Dutch and Butler of Corning; niece Byshea Morgan, husband Michael, daughter Rider, and son Briggs of Greenway; and numerous relatives and friends.

Ermert Funeral Home of Corning is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be private at the Corning Cemetery with a celebration of life to be scheduled for a later date.
