Gene Elder, 87, of Corning, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2026, at Corning Therapy and Living Center in Corning. Born on July 17, 1939, in Corning, Gene was a lifelong outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Gene was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He found happiness in the simple pleasures of life and treasured the time he spent with his family. His love for his family and the memories they shared will remain a lasting part of his legacy. Gene was a member of Living Word Fellowship which is now, Ignited Worship Center in Corning.

On May 25, 1996, Gene married Ernestine Elder, and they shared many years together until her passing on November 1, 2024.

Survivors include his children, Derinda (Gary) Sheppard of Harviell, Missouri, Kathy Butler of Corning and Ricky Lee Yandell of Corning; grandchildren, Wesley Harmon, Gary (Pat) Dillinger, Tina Sheppard, Jaime (Frank) Day, Becky (Bill) Laws, and Adam Yandell; great-grandchild, Nathan, Liam, Skyla, Alex, Emily and Stephanie; half-brother, Johnny Elder of Salt Lake City, Utah; half-sister, Lillie Bryum of Fresno, California; along with many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

In addition to his beloved wife, Ernestine, Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Susie Ellen and Joe Lex, father, Pete Elder; and his daughter, Linda Harmon.

Gene will be remembered for the time he spent with those he loved and the simple joys that brought meaning to his life. He leaves behind cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at 10 :00 AM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. William Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Corning Cemetery.
