Gladys Loretta Clifton, 96, of Corning,AR passed away on August 8, 2020 at St Bernard's Medical Center. She was born on February 8, 1924 in Harrisburg, AR. She married Leon Clifton on March 9, 1945. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1994. They moved to the Corning area shortly there after and she became a farmer's wife and the mother of three girls. She loved sewing and making their clothes. She also used her sewing skills and worked at the shoe factory for over ten years. Mrs. Clifton was a regular at the Senior Center in Corning. She enjoyed the visiting and all the games. Before she was a "senior" citizen, she got to travel on a couple of Senior Citizen trips to Washington D.C. and the World's Fair. At 89, she flew for the first time when her grandson, Todd, and family took her to China. Later, she would get to fly again and go to Seattle and tour the Boeing plant. Gladys had been a "Rosie the Riveter" in Wichita, Kansas during the war.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include daughters Wanda Baxley of Pocahontas and Darlene (Jon) Southerland of Vilonia; grandchildren Todd (Charlie) Smith, Jennifer (Danny) DeVore, Ron (Deshea) Baxley, and Erika Waller. She had ten great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn, her grandson, Scott Taylor; parents John Ellis and Florence Embry Sarter; brother Charles Sarter; and sisters Lena Cole, Mary Farrow, and Geraldine McKeown.

A graveside immediate family only service will be held Wednesday, August 12, at 3:00 P.M. at the Corning Cemetery with James Johnston officiating under the direction of Ermert Funeral Home. Burial will follow.
