Helen Easterwood, 97, of Corning, AR., passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Corning Therapy and Living Center in Corning. Mrs. Easterwood was born March 16, 1927 in Knobel, AR. She was retired, during her career she work as a sales clerk for theBen Franklin Department Store and as a cafeteria cook for Corning High School. She was a member of New Home Methodist Church and later, First United Methodist Church in Corning, AR. She was a Sunday School teacher for several years. She was an accomplished cook and baker, not only did her family enjoy the meals and goodies she prepared, but she always made her famous German chocolate cake and chicken an dumplings for all the church dinners. Helen loved gardening and working in her yard.
On June 7, 1944, she married Bradley Easterwood. They celebrated 56 years of marriage prior to his death on November 2, 2000.
Survivors include her children Betty L. Adams of House Springs, MO., Linda L. Tewis of Cape Girardeau, MO., Brenda D. (Jack) Morrison of House Springs, MO., and Bradley H. Easterwood, Jr. of Corning, AR.; sisters Virginia Brumfield of Corning, AR., Wilma Bauschlicher of Corning, AR., and Dorothy Gerber of Poplar Bluff, MO.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents William “Bill” and Eathel Charity (Gleghorn) Phelan; brothers Jack, Bob and Billie Phelan; sisters Hilda Cochran, Doris Shephard and JoAnn Kammerman; and son-in-law Dr. Huey Tewis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 600 Pine St., Corning, AR 72422 or the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024 in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Fred Martin and Pastor Herbert Ellis officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Corning Cemetery.
