Mrs. Helen Frances Skaggs, 80, of Corning, AR., passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at home with her family. Mrs. Skaggs was born in Boydsville, AR., on November 12, 1931. She held many jobs through out her lifetime, having worked at the shoe factory, Basler Electric Company, Walmart as a department manager and the former Corning Nursing Home as a C.N.A. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, attending auctions, fishing, spending time with family and babysitting her great-grandchildren. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Corning, AR.
She married her husband Lowell W. "Joe" Skaggs on May 2, 1947. He survives. Other survivors include three sons Benny Skaggs and wife Karon of Success, AR., Bill Skaggs and wife Brenda of Corning, AR., Rex Skaggs and wife Gloria of Corning, AR.; one daughter Kathy and husband Hirthel Welker of Tucumcuri, NM.; two sisters Euvalia Cate of Saint Louis, MO., Vona Jean and husband Woodrow Lowe of Piggott, AR.; six grandchildren Jennifer and husband Craig Barker, Shelby and husband David Burkheart, Shannon and husband Beau Wilcox, Jason Skaggs and wife Karie, Jamie and husband TJay Lathum, Billy Skaggs and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alonzo and Lessie (Phillips) Toombs; son Windell Lowell Skaggs and brother Farris Toombs.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Doug Burch officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Corning Cemetery. Public visitation will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
