James Hollis, 79, of Success, passed away peacefully at his home on October 5, 2026.
Born December 3, 1946, in Corning, James was a longtime member of the community and dedicated many years of his working life to Clay County Electric Cooperative before his retirement. He was a hardworking man who found joy in the simple things in life and treasured the time he was able to spend with the people he loved. James was also a member of the Corning Masonic Lodge, an organization he was proud to be a part of.
James had a genuine love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and hunting, finding both relaxation and enjoyment in being outside. He also loved to dance and appreciated good music, good company, and the opportunity to enjoy life. Above all, James cherished his family and friends. The time he spent visiting, laughing, sharing stories, and making memories with those closest to him was especially important to him. His warm presence and the memories he created with others will be treasured by all who knew him.
James is survived by his children, Patty Montgomery of Corning, Scott (Cindy) Gulledge of Success, and Dale (Diane) Gulledge of Maynard; brothers, Jackie Hollis of Maynard and Tony Hollis of Sharpsburg, Maryland; sister, Trish Hollis of Pocahontas; nine grandchildren; along with several other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Hollis, who passed away October 5, 1998; his parents, Charles “Bid” and Eunnis (Vester) Hollis; brothers, Charley, Larry, Gary, Doug, Connie and Dale Hollis; and sister, Norma Cato.
James will be lovingly remembered for his hardworking nature, his love of the outdoors, his enjoyment of dancing and good company, and the love he had for his family and friends. Though he is no longer with those who loved him, the memories he created and the lives he touched will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday October 10, 2026 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. Funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Bro. Herbert Ellis officiating. Burial will be at Corning Cemetery.
