Janet Sue West was born to Charles and Virginia “Merle” West on February 18, 1947, in Peach Orchard, Arkansas. She passed peacefully in her sleep on April 15, 2026 at Green Acres Sanctuary in Paragould, Arkansas.

Janet moved with her family to Houston, Texas in 1963 where she graduated from John Regan High School and attended The University of Houston with a Liberal Arts major. In 1976 she began working for the Dean of the UH Graduate School of Education until 1982. Janet then joined the general practice law firm of Sandage, Heath & Elskes, LLP in Houston, Texas as Office Manager and Legal Assistant until 1995.

In February 1995, Janet moved back to Paragould from Houston and began work at AMMC. She retired from AMMC in June of 2013, but continued her service there as a volunteer Pink Lady.

Survivors include: sister Judy Jackson of Paragould, Arkansas; aunt and uncle Bob and Ronna Hovis of Paragould, Arkansas; cousins Steve and Shannon Hovis of Paragould, Arkansas; Stan Hovis of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas; Dick and Marguerite Hovis of Joliet, Illinois; Steven and Kelly May of Oxford, Mississippi; Sherry Hovis of Houston, Texas; Andrew, McKenna and Hattie Hovis of Searcy, Arkansas; Kersten, Chandler and Jack Taylor of Paragould, Arkansas; and numerous friends from Texas and Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by: parents Charles and Virginia West; grandparents, Camuel Eli “Buck” and Nora Louella Hovis; aunt, Mildred Weaver; uncle Jesse Hovis; and cousin Delora May.

Janet was known for her laughter, kindness, quick wit, love of animals, cooking, reading and always going the extra mile.
