Janice Prater

Janice Prater, 69, of Corning, passed away August 3, 2025 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO.

Mrs. Prater was born March 8, 1956 in Pocahontas the daughter of J. C. and Glenda (Cavenar) Carter. She attended Success Elementary and graduated from Corning High School in 1974. Janice was retired from Basler Electric where she worked more than 30 years. She enjoyed shopping, cleaning, camping, fishing and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia.

On August 9, 1996, she married Jim Prater. They were married 17 years prior to his passing on April 9, 2014.

Survivors include her brother Dennis (Julia) Carter of Mason, TX; aunt Sandy Smith of Corning; children Diana (Wayne) Tillie of Corning, Greg Prater of Jonesboro, Tina Prater of Corning and Pete (Melissa) Prater of Jonesboro; several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her son Jimmy Prater.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 6, 2025 at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Rev. Richard Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Corning Cemetery.
