Mrs. Janie Elizabeth Halcomb Davidson, 72 of Rockford, IL went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 4, 2011. Mrs. Davidson passed after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born March 11, 1939, in Modesto, California, the daughter of Annie Evelyn Halcomb and William Fred Halcomb. Janie married her best friend, Gerald F. Davidson on August 1, 1959. Janie was a devoted Christian and loved serving the Lord. She was an active member of Silver Hill Pentecostal Church where she loved to volunteer her time cleaning and working in the kitchen. She enjoyed attending local Christian music concerts and the Brumley Gospel singing, always with her friend, Martha Bentley. Janie loved flowers and would start hers from seed each year. Janie was also an avid Cubs fan.
Survivors include daughter, Valerie (Mike) Wallschlaeger, sons Gerald “Jerry” Davidson, Clifton Davidson, grandson Phil Davidson whom she considered her 3rd son, sisters Pecola Marshall of Fairview Heights, IL, Bernice Russell of DuQuoin, IL; brother Elmo (Marie) Halcomb of Bakersfield, CA; three step grandchildren, Alicia, Katie and Eric Wallschlaeger; and sisters in law, Emily Halcomb of Chugiak, Alaska, Maxine (Paul) Lewis of Machesney Park and Imogene Czarnikow of Rockford, IL. Preceded in death by parents; husband Gerald Davidson; daughter Beverly Sue; brothers, Calton, Melvin, Otis and Virgil; sister, Connie.
Funeral service to be held on Friday, April 8, 2011, at Silver Hill Pentecostal Church, 4401 20th Street, Rockford, IL at 6:00 PM. Visitation will start previous to service at 5:00 PM in the Church, arrangements by Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Crematory. Additional funeral services will be conducted in Arkansas on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation in Corning will be held from 12:00 Noon until time of service.
