J.V. Rockwell

Mr. Jan Verdayne "J.V." Rockwell, 87, of Corning, AR., and Jonesboro, AR., passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, AR. Mr. Rockwell was born in Dubuque, IA., on October 16, 1925. He was the President and owner of J.V. Rockwell Publishing, Corning Publishing Company and Star Herald Publisnhing Company. Mr. Rockwell served two terms as President of the Corning Area Chamber of Commerece. He served as Vice-Chairman on the Corning Industrial Development Committee for many years. He worked tirelessly to promote Corning's Annual Forth of July Homecoming and the Harvest Festival. He was the 2010 Forth of July Parade Grand Marshall. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Corning, AR. where he served on numerous committees throughout the years, he taught the Men's Bible Classof the on the He proudly served his country as a Liuetenant in the United States Navy, with assignments on the USS Augusta, during the Korean War he served on the USS Eldorado and USS Logan, he received The Korean Engagement Star, the United Stations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Veteren's of Foriegn War.

He is survived by his wife Thelma (Johnson) Rockwell of the home; three sons Steven Rockwell and wife Dana of Jonesboro, AR., Stuart Rockwell and wife Judi of Poplar Bluff, MO., Mark Rockwell and wife Kari of Paragould, AR.; one daughter Angela Rockwell Tyrer of Jonesboro, AR; one sister Jane Argenbright of Republic, MO.; twelve grandchildren Erica and husband Jason, Emily and husband Kevin, Logan, Lauren and husband Jeremy, Tyler, Blakely, Barrett, Ben, Brooke, Rachel, Sophie, Tasha; six great-grandchildren Jake, Wes, Bo, Will, Karson, and Blaine.

He was preceded in death by his parents A. A. and Ora Rockwell; and step-mother Gertrude Rockwell.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church in Corning, AR., Doctor Rusty Keltner, Reverends Bruce Tippit and Charles Lewis officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Corning Cemetery with Military honors. Visitations will held Friday, Febraury 22, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro, AR. An additional visitation will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel.
