Obituary

Lucille Liles, beloved resident of Corning, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Flo and Phil Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas, at the age of 89.

Born on April 24, 1937, in Shook, Missouri, to Elvis Buford and Stella Catherine (Esary) Costephens, Lucille lived a full and meaningful life. She dedicated many years to her community, first as a telephone operator and later serving 17 years as a cafeteria worker in the Corning School District before retirement.

Lucille’s passions included scrapbooking, canning alongside her husband Pete, cooking, baking her renowned pies and cobblers, cross-stitching, and playing the piano. Above all, she treasured the moments spent with her family, cherishing her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. She was especially devoted to her only grandson and later her great-grandchildren, whom she considered her greatest blessings. Lucille was a devoted charter member of First General Baptist Church in Corning for more than 45 years and held a deep love for her Bible, having read it cover to cover eight times.

On August 25, 1957, Lucille married Hermon “Pete” Liles. Their marriage of 60 years was filled with love and companionship until his passing on July 26, 2018.

Lucille is survived by her sons, Delane (Missy) Liles and David Liles, both of Corning; her grandson Jason (Emily) Liles; great-grandchildren Emercyn, Ellie, and Charley; along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends who held her in great esteem. She was preceded in death by her husband Pete, her parents, and her brother Buford Costephens.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with Reverends Gary Long and Gary Halcomb officiating. Burial will follow at the Corning Cemetery.

Lucille Liles’ life was a testament to love, faith, and dedication, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
