Marilyn J Cox

February 6, 1927 — July 4, 2025

Our 98-year-old mother, Marilyn J. Cox of Corning, AR, died on her second favorite day of the year: July 4, 2025. Four days before she passed, she wanted to know how sick she was and when was the 4th. It was no shock the Lord took her “Home” on this great American holiday. It seems Heaven called our loved ones “Home” on holidays: our grandparents on Labor Day, daddy on Valentine’s Day, and now…mother.

Mother had an incredible life, born February 6, 1927, and married daddy, Gene T. Cox, on November 27,1947. Theirs was a beautiful marriage of 60 years. She had two children, Karen Cox Johnston of Virginia Beach, VA, and David Cox of Datto, AR; six grandchildren (Allison Miller, Tiffany Russell, Jonathan Cox, Brian Johnston, James Cox, Crystal Roberts), and twelve great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be the grandchildren.

Mother desired to live to be 100 years old in this life. She had an active life. She was blessed. She was a member of Grassy Lead Church of Christ for 68 years. She worked and retired from Clay County Electric after 32 years, and these last 20 years she had a lifetime of laughs enjoying the Corning Red Hat Cats. Throughout her life she loved to read! When her eyesight diminished, she listened to books on tape, courtesy of the U.S. government. Please contact Arkansas Library for the Blind at 900 W Capitol Ave Little Rock, AR 72201, nisbooks@asl.lib.ar.us or 501-682-1155.

We would like to thank Jeff, her handler, for eight years of all the book recommendations. This service loans citizens free recorders, earphones and free mailing to and from. If your loved ones need this service please contact the above organization. Our mother wasn’t perfect, but she was good. She walked her great life knowing this wasn’t her home…she was “only passing through.” In lieu of flowers, she requests memorials made to Nelson/Johnston Cemetery, P.O. Box 18 Reyno, AR 72462.

P.S. Her favorite day of the years was Thanksgiving, the day she married our daddy. We look forward to seeing you both in Paradise one day.
