Mrs. Mary Fay Woods, 82, of Maryland Heights, MO., passed away Monday, September 22, 2014 peacefully in her home. Mrs. Woods was known as “Fay” to her childhood friends and relatives, and “Mary” to her Saint Louis friends. She was born in Boydsville, AR., on September 7, 1932., to Mack and Mattie Willis. She grew up in Northeast Arkansas. Following the death of her father in 1945, She left school in order to help the family by working in the cotton fields and other jobs.

She married Burlis Burnell Woods on 10 November 1952 in Arkansas. Shortly afterward, they moved to Saint Louis. MO., to pursue opportunities for employment. Burlis worked as a plumber affiliated with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. Mary Fay worked several jobs including a time with RC Can Company, Brown Shoes and the Thompson Center. They adopted their son Rodney in 1962 and their daughter Tammy in 1968. They moved to their home in Maryland Heights in 1964. Burlis passed away in February 2005. They had been married 52 years.

For the past 40 years Mary attended the Maryland Heights Presbyterian Church. Her son Rodney Wood is married to Karen and serves as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, the United Reformed Church and HarvestNet International. Her daughter Tammy is married to Rich Knuth and is the proud mother of four children.

In addition to Tammy and Rodney, she is survived by four grandchildren Leigh Ann, Ashley, Austin and Haley; a sister Margie Keller of Troy, IL.; a sister-in-law Phyllis Willis, of Decatur, IL.; and many nieces and nephews.

There will a visitation held Friday, September 26, 2014 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Collier’s Funeral Home in St. Ann, MO. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, September 28, 2014 2:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning, AR. Burial will follow the service in the Corning Cemetery. Visitation in Corning will be held Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 1:00 PM until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Maryland Heights Presbyterian Church.
