Mrs. Mazel (McNeely) Overbey, 91, of Baton Rouge, LA., passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at The Butterfly Wing of Baton Rouge General Medical Center Midcity in Baton Rouge, LA. Mrs. Overbey was born in Ellington, MO., on March 4, 1923. She was a homemaker, she enjoyed taking care of her family and attending church. She was a past 50 plus year member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Cahokia, IL., and a current member of Calvary Chapel in Baton Rouge, LA.
She married her husband of 62 years James Clay Overbey on July 4, 1942 in Corning, AR., he preceded her in death on May 3, 2005.
She is survived by one son Glendel Overbey of Carlyle, IL.; three daughters Judy Reyes of Baton Rouge, LA., Jackie Maine of Matairie, LA., Tina Huckabay of Yuma, AZ.; two brothers Charlie McNeely of Belton, MO., Joe McNeely of Denver, CO.; one sister Magdalene McNeely of Fairdealing, MO.; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents Clarence Jackson and Osa (Turner) McNeely; one son Jimmie Overbey; three brothers Samuel McNeely, Paul McNeely, Frankie McNeely; two sisters Lucy Hayes and Ellen McNeely
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Wood officiating. Burial will follow the service in Eaton Cemetery near Naylor, MO. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 12:00 PM until the time of service.
Additional Visitation will be held Friday, April 18, 2014 from 5:30 PM, a Prayer Service will begin at 7:30 PM in the Rest Haven Garden of Memory and Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, LA.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, Memphis TN.
