Mrs. Mazie Estelee (Smith) Hyland, 87, of Poplar Bluff, MO., passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 at home. Mrs. Hyland was born June 8, 1926 in Corning, AR., to the late Floyd and Dessie Wilson Smith. At a young age, her mother, Dessie passed away and her father remarried Agnes Wilson Smith who became mom to Mrs. Hyland.
Mazie was married to Joseph Howard Hyland on June 8, 1946 and he preceded her in death December 5, 2010.
She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, MO.
Mazie retired after many years as personnel manager of Loflin Brothers Oil Company and Marlin Oil Company in Bakersfield, CA. Most recently her friendly smile was seen at the Physician’s Park Primary Care Offices in Poplar Bluff, where she worked as Patient Concierge.
Mrs. Hyland is survived by one sister, Imogene Eaton of West Memphis, AR.; a brother in law and sister in law, Glenn and Betty Hyland of Beebe, AR.; 15 nieces and nephews; and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many friends who were as close as family all over the country.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hyland was preceded in death by a brother Sterling Smith and a sister JoAnn Weaver.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Temple Baptist Church, 1813 Barron Road, Poplar Bluff, MO., at 11:00 AM with Reverend Steve Patterson officiating. Burial will be at Richwoods Cemetery in Corning, AR. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 10:00 AM until the time of service at Temple Baptist Church.
