Melveda Janetta Kegley entered her eternal home in heaven on November 13, 2025, at the age of 89 years old.
Born in Corning Arkansas on May 5, 1936, she was the daughter of Robert Goodman and Gertie Robinson Howell. At age 4 she was adopted and raised by Oliver Henry Howell.
Melveda was a proud member of First Christian Church in Corning, AR where she attended regularly and taught Sunday school. She co-owned Humpty Dumpty Daycare where she shaped many young lives. She was Deputy Treasure of Clay County for many years.
Melveda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was dearly loved and will be remembered for her warm heart, kind spirit, and unwavering faith. Her love for the Lord was evident in all she did. Most of all, she adored her family and devoted her life to loving and caring for them. Affectionately known as “Nanny” by many, she beamed with pride when showing off pictures of her children, grandchildren, and, most recently, great-grandchildren.
She married the love of her life, Bob Kegley Jr., on July 10, 1953. They were married for 57 wonderful years and devoted their lives to their children prior to his death on May 30, 2010.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Steve (Tara) Kegley and Cindy (Marc) Thompson; her grandchildren: Kaley Brewer, Kandace (Alex) Baldwin, Jake (Melanie) Kegley, Clint (Jessica) Miles, Kyler (Cydney) Miles, Madelyn Miles, Justin Thompson, Blair (Brian) Burkey; great-grandchildren Madison Typer, Jake Typer, Allison Typer, Taylor Brewer, Brock Brewer, Annalee Baldwin, Bauer Baldwin, Hudson Miles, Eila Jayne Miles, Evalena Kegley, Cooper Kegley as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Melveda was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Pamela Johnson; and stepsister, Lavada Bailey.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the caring staff at Craighead Nursing Center. You became family to our mother, and she loved you dearly. We are especially thankful to the compassionate caregivers at Quail Run Health and Rehab, Dierkson Hospice and Caring Hearts for your exceptional care in her final days—we are forever indebted to you.
