Oran Smith

Mr. Joseph Oran Smith, 89, of Peach Orchard, AR., passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
He was born April 27, 1923 in the Smithwick Community near Peach Orchard to the late Joseph Richard Smith and Ora Mae (Catt) Smith.
Oran was a lifelong farmer in the Knobel-Peach Orchard area. He was a long-time member and deacon of Pirtle Free Will First Baptist Church until 1986 when the congregation disbanded after the building burned. He then moved to the Thorn Grove Free Will Baptist Church and served as a deacon there. In later years, he attended the Southern Baptist Church of Peach Orchard.
Survivors are his wife of 71 years Edith Smith of the home; three children Richard Smith and wife Judy of Peach Orchard, AR., Barbara and husband Eldon Schmidt of O’Fallon, IL., Harold Smith and wife Carol of Knobel, AR.; grandchildren Mark Smith and wife Carla of Peach Orchard, AR., Todd Smith and wife Tammy of Peach Orchard, AR., Teri and husband Brad Range of O'Fallon, IL., David Schmidt and wife Kady of Houston, TX., Sara Smith of Jefferson City, MO., Rachel and husband Josh Bang of Auxvasse, MO.; great-grandchildren Justin Smith and wife Lavella, Megan and husband Josh Murray, Tiffany and husband Aaron Kirby, Kayla Bang, Lori Bang, Hali Smith, Kayla Smith, Kara Schmidt, Kendra Schmidt; great-great-grandchildren Karleigh Smith, Luke Murray and Hadley Murray; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents; his sisters Gusta Herring, Ella Boyd, Bertha Pugsley, Mabel Perdue; and brother Orla Smith.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Heath Vines officiating. Burial will follow in Pirtle Cemetery in Peach Orchard. Visitation will be held Friday, August 31, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
