Mr. Granville "Red" Sumpter, 86, of Corning, AR., passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at home. Mr. Sumpter was born at Desloge, MO., he was a retired lineman from Bell Telephone, he proudly served he country as a member of the United States Army during World War II, he enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.
He married his wife of 68 years, Valetta (Walker) Sumpter on January 17, 1942, she survives. Other survivors include three brothers Berlin Sumpter of Rolla, MO., Finis Sumpter of Warrenburg, MO., Herbert "Hub" Sumpter of Doe Run, MO.; two sister-in-laws Billie Fortenberry of Corning, AR., Helen Ennis of Corning, AR.; several nieces and newpews.
He was preceded in death by parents Poley and Lena (Petty) Sumpter; two infant children; one brother Verlin Sumpter; four sisters Ann Crump, Margaret Martin, Gloria Sumpter and Betty Best.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 31, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Herbert Ellis officiating, Burial will follow the service in the Corning Cemetery. Public visitation will be held Friday, December 31, 2010 from 11:00 AM until time of service.
