Mr. Robert Niles Cherry, 85, of Corning, passed away at 10:20 AM, Friday, May 11, 2012 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Mr. Cherry was born in Maynard on October 31, 1926. He was Elementary School Principle and Elementary Supervisor for forty years with the Corning School District. He served two terms as an Arkansas State Representative. He served on various committees during his life time. He proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Corning First United Methodist Church
On May 24, 1953 he was united in marriage to Norma Edington, she survives. Other survivors are one daughter Cynthia and husband Joe Crowson of Jonesboro; granddaughter Cherry Brooke and husband Jason Bobbitt; one great-granddaughter Isabella Bobbitt; two step granddaughters Amy and husband Keith Kennedy, one step great-granddaughter Laney Kennedy; Jessica Crowson; one step great-grandson Whitten Crowson; two brothers William L. Cherry of Sherwood, Jerry Cherry of Corning; three sisters Margaret Ungerank, Shirley Crawford and Phyllis Burrow all of Reyno; several nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Leonard and Alta (Overby) Cherry; two brothers Hanley Eugene Cherry and Thomas L. Cherry, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 14, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church in Corning with Reverends Ann Farris and Larry Hughes officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Nelson Cemetery in Reyno. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 13, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning.
