Ruby Ennis, 99, of Success, AR., passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Corning Therapy and Living Center. Mrs. Ennis was born December 18, 1924 at Hopson Valley, near Corning, AR. She was a hard worker, working in the fields along side with her husband, Herman for many years before going to work for 20 years at Basler Electric. She enjoyed sewing for her family, crocheting, gardening, and singing. She played music in her younger years with her brother and cousins, singing in talent shows around the area. She said she had a good life and wouldn’t change anything. She was of the Pentecostal faith.
On June 17, 1943 she married the love of her life Herman D. Ennis, Sr., in Success, AR., their wedding was officiated by Lee Williams. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his passing on October 22, 2003.
Survivors include her daughters; Gayle (Jerry) Goodman of Corning, AR., Kathy Shumate of Success, AR., Paula Witcher of Success; son Doyn (Connie) Ennis of Success, AR., brothers; Homer Whelchel of Poplar Bluff, MO., Bill (Linda) Whelchel of Poplar Bluff, MO., grandchildren; Blake (Cathy) Goodman, Bysshe (Steve) Boris, Charlie (Tom) Powell, Amber Witcher, Ryan Witcher, Lisa Witcher, Aaron (Vicki) Shumate, Noah (Sara) Shumate, Jonah (Kelly) Shumate, Elizabeth Ennis; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Ethel (Deckard) Whelchel; sisters Norma Sells, Beulah Lewis, Mildred Talley, and Ruth Pond; brother Ralph and Elmer Whelchel and a grandson Rhett Witcher.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Bill Ennis and Gary Clayton officiating. Burial will follow the services in Corning Cemetery.
