Russell Meredith

June 2, 1920 — October 31, 2013

Mr. William Russell Meredith of Reyno, Arkansas passed from this world into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 31, 2013, at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. By God’s grace and the blessing of friends, he was allowed to live in his own home until his final illness. He was ninety-three years old.

Russell, as he was known to his friends, was a veteran of World War II and was a young cadet in the newly-formed Army Air Corps. He fell in love with and then married the beautiful Cecelia Irene Grayson on October 20, 1944. Their first days and months as newlyweds were spent in San Antonio, Texas where they made treasured memories.

Russell was born on June 2, 1920 the son of Thomas Augustus and Amanda Jane “Della” (Debord) Meredith and lived across the street from Reyno First Baptist Church. He loved his home town and though he had many opportunities to further his career with Mississippi River Fuel Corporation, he stayed in Reyno his entire life except while serving in the military. He worshiped even to the final Sunday before his death with his church family who brought much joy to him in his final years.

Russell was preceded in death by his precious wife, Irene and his beloved son, Greg. He is survived by his daughter and husband, Ed and Rebecca Emery of Lamar, Missouri; his grandchildren Elizabeth, Samuel, Paul, Daniel and Madison Emery; and one beautiful great-granddaughter, Irene Rose, who is named after his beloved wife of fifty-eight years. He is also survived by his sister Vada Mae Mueller and her children Joyce and Tommy.

Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, November 3, at 2:00 PM in the Reyno First Baptist Church with Reverend Roger Hovis officiating. Burial will follow the services at Nelson Cemetery in Reyno. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 2, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel.
