Scottie Baker, Jr., 89, of Corning, passed away peacefully at his home on October 5, 2026.
Scottie was born December 9, 1936, in Corning, to Winfield Scott and Hazel (Dalton) Baker. He devoted his career to the water industry, working as a water treatment and water plant manager until his retirement. A proud veteran, Scottie honorably served his country in the United States Air Force.
On January 17, 1987, Scottie married the love of his life, Kathryn Thayer. This past January, they celebrated 39 years of marriage together. Their years together were filled with love, companionship, family, and countless memories.
Scottie was a man who found joy in the simple things in life. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and traveling, but above all, he treasured the time he spent with his family and friends. He had a genuine appreciation for the people around him and leaves behind many cherished memories that will continue to be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kathryn Baker of the home; his children, Fern (Scott) Hollingshead of Buchanan, Michigan, Jack (Margarita) Baker of Tucson, Arizona, John (Tammy) Baker of Appleton, Wisconsin, Anne (Matt Claflin) Baker of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Lance (Kathy) Smith of Sussex, Wisconsin, and Machelle Smith of Watertown, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winfield Scott and Hazel (Dalton) Baker; and his children, Susan Baker, James Baker, and Todd Smith.
Scottie will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his pride in serving his country, his many talents and interests, and the love he so generously shared with those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends who were blessed to know him.
A memorial service will be held Friday October 9, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. prior to the service.
