Sonjia Pearson

Mrs. Sonjia Kay Pearson, 73, of Marked Tree, AR., passed away Saturday, September 12, 2015, surrounded by her family at home. Mrs. Pearson was born in Corning, AR., on November 6, 1941. She was a retired school teacher. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Home Economics from the University of Arkansas in 1963 and remained a lifelong Razorback fan. After growing up in Corning, she accepted a teaching position in Marked Tree where she taught home economics and the gifted and talented programs for nearly thirty years. Her Odyssey of the Mind and Quiz Bowl teams participated in events from the state to national levels under her guidance. Further tours were conducted to Washington, D.C. and New York City.

A member of the Marked Tree First United Methodist Church and various community organizations, she also enjoyed spending time on Lake Norfolk and Current River.

She is survived by her son Don Jerry Pearson, Jr., and wife Brenda of Marked Tree, AR.; daughter Dana P. and husband Keith Ashcraft of Marked Tree, AR.; one brother Truman Moore, Jr., and wife Janet of Corning, AR.; three sisters Dema Smith of Corning, AR., Carolyn Sue Bippus of Corning, AR., Janice and husband Roger Baxter of Winston Salem, NC.; two grandchildren Riley Ashcraft of Marked Tree, AR., and Kelly Ashcraft of Marked tree, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents Truman Mabry and Novelle Inez (Boyd) Moore; two brothers Charles Moore and Jerry Moore.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Marked Tree, AR.

The family requests that First United Methodist Church of Marked Tree be considered for any memorials.
