Velma Brown

Mrs. Velma Marie Brown, 96, of Corning, AR., left her earthly body for an eternity in Heaven on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. She was born in DeSoto, MO., on August 22, 1921. Mrs. Brown had lived at Corning Therapy and Living Center since November, 2013. The staff loved her and cared for her as if she was a precious member of their own family. Velma had been under the care of Legacy Hospice, who made her comfortable in her final days.

She became a Christian at an early age. Her Bible was her favorite book. She attended church at First Baptist in Corning, AR., until she became ill in November, 2013. She studied her Bible daily until her eyesight failed. Velma loved the beauty on earth that God created, especially the changing seasons, flowers, squirrels, and rocks. She was well known as a champion Skip-Bo card game player. Her family was what she loved most on the earth.

Survivors are her children Johnny and Janet; grandchildren Mike, Donna, Jennifer, Brian, Angie, Jeremy, Dena, Evan and Meridith; 19 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren. There will be two additional great-great-grandchildren born in 2018.

Velma outlived her husband Sollie; daughter Dot; parents George and Mary (Skaggs) Brooks; siblings Bert, Myrtie, Doris, Hazel and Ruth; and granddaughter Angela.

A celebration of her life will be conducted Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 12:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Josh Raspberry. Burial will follow in the Corning Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to a charity of your choice.
