Mr. Vern Burl Shepard, 89, of Corning, AR., passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Poplar Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. Mr. Shepard was born in Datto AR., on June 5, 1922. He was a retired assembly line worker for General Motors. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.
He married his wife Lorene (Blankenship) Shepard on January 22, 1942. She preceded him in death on January 7, 2012.
He is survived by four children Ray Shepard of Doniphan, MO., Charles Shepard of Poplar Bluff, MO., Helen Lovelady of Corning, AR., and James Shepard of Rush Springs, OK.; two sisters Geneva Schlegal of Californina and Maudie Brown of Arizona; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents Virgil and Mary (Offard) Shepard; two brothers Bud and Olen Shepard; two sisters Opal Gilbee and Thelma Smith, half-sister Lorie Parker and granddaughter Lisa Shepard.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Carl Thomason and Jerry Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow the service in Richwoods Cemetery. Public visitation will be held Monday, January 9, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
