Verneal Willis Cooper was the tenth child of William and Viola Grace (Smith) Willis, born on August 2, 1920 near Success, Arkansas.
She had six brothers: Alfred, Alvin, Wilburn, Euell, one who was stillborn and one who died at birth. She had five sisters: Alta Cobb, Ethel who died as an infant, Mabel Moore, Dorothy Pride Wise and Helen Delaney.
Verneal moved to California in 1942 where she met her husband. She married William Lee Cooper in 1944. They had one child, Edward Richard Cooper who was born on June 25, 1945. Eddie was the pride and joy of their life. They also had two grandchildren, Megan and Travis, and two great-grandsons, Gavin and Logan, and one great-granddaughter Kaitlyn. Verneal was married to William for 32 years when he died in 1977.
Verneal was born and raised in the Success and Corning, Arkansas areas. She lived in California for over sixty years, but has stayed close to her Arkansas roots. She traveled from California almost every year to visit her many relatives in the area. She returned home to live in Arkansas in April of 2007.
Verneal was a Christian and was baptized in the Church of God in Compton, California. Later, she became a member of the Palomar Christian Church in Escondido, California where she attended for about 25 years. She was loved by many and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Verneal had a kind and caring spirit and was known for the comfort and aid she gave to many family and friends who were ill. She will be remembered for the help she gave to others, her love of children, her happy positive personality, and her wonderful smile.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 10:00 AM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel until the time of funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the services at Hitt Cemetery in Success, Arkansas.
