Vondel Taylor

Vondel Taylor, 69, of Corning, AR., passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Saint Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro. Vondel was born in Rockford, IL., on August 29, 1953. Vondel was a contractor in the Corning area for over 30 years. He worked on many homes and made people’s dreams a reality, while working side by side with his sons and grandsons daily. Prior to contracting, he was a bricklayer, truck driver, and former owner of Von’s IGA in Rector, AR. He enjoyed his trucking days and having his children and grandchildren as a part of that made him extremely happy. He treasured days working on his tractor. He loved his family and cherished time with his grandchildren teaching them life skills from tying their shoes to driving and eventually carpentry. He was an avid Cardinals fan and loved watching them even when they were losing, always offering them advice through the TV. Vondel also loved watching wrestling, Walker Texas Ranger and The Rifleman. He was known to spend weekends at the dirt track watching races. He had an infectious laugh and enjoyed telling stories. Vondel attended House of Prayer in Corning.

On April 12, 1991, he married Sherry Hinklin. They celebrated their 31st anniversary this year.

In addition to his wife, other survivors include his children Matt (Cindy) Taylor of Corning, AR., Lea Landreth of Corning, AR., Jeremy (Teresa) Roofe of Corning, AR., and Chris (Misty) Roofe of Stanford, AR.; sister Vicky (Eddie) Guthrey of Texas; brother Shawn Taylor of Rector, AR.; grandchildren Denver Roofe, Trever Roofe, Taylor Landreth, Dustin Roofe, Allison Landreth, Montana Taylor, Alexis Taylor, Adam Barnum, Carson Barnum, Karli and Karter Roswell; great-grandchildren Henry, Hayden, Chloe, KayLyn, and Montgomery; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles “Dutch” and Vida Taylor.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 10:30 AM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Reverend Carmon McMasters officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Corning Cemetery.
