Wanda Wendelken

December 22, 1930 — September 27, 2015

Mrs. Wanda (Rice) Wendelken, 84, of Snellville, GA., passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family and cat Smokey. Mrs. Wendelken was born in Corning, AR., on December 22, 1930 the daughter of the late Elsworth H. Rice and Maggie Rice. She grew up on a farm during hard times but despite humble beginnings she took the reins of her life into her own hands and worked her way up to become an executive secretary in the Veteran's Administration. With her late husband Captain William Henry Wendelken of the United States Army they lived and worked in many places around the world including Hawaii and France, where they had their only son David Neal Wendelken. Wanda was an excellent decorator and always made their house a home.

The family eventually made their way back near home to Memphis, TN., where they lived for many years. After William passed she wished to be near her sister Helen Rich and moved to Snellville. Selling your home and leaving where you have lived for over 40 years is a big step but doing that when you are 79 tells you she was a tough lady. She was an excellent cook and was enjoying teaching
Meghan and Daniel Johnson (her niece's children) to cook.

One of her favorite things was getting dressed up and going to the Fox Theater with her sister Shara and her husband Gregg Johnson and their children. They always ended the night with a trip to the Varsity for frosted orange. Her love for life and the fun we had will be
missed.

Survivors include her son David Wendelken of Fayetteville, NC.: her
sister Helen Rich of Lilburn, GA., and her children, her brother Clarence Rice of Little Rock, AR., and his children.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 6:00 PM in the Eternal Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Snellville, GA.
Burial will be at the Corning Cemetery with a graveside service beginning at 1:00 PM on October 3, 2015 with pastor Herbert Ellis officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations can sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, P O Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
