Willie Thomas Roofe

January 3, 1922 — February 21, 2011

Mr. Willie Thomas Roofe, 89, of Corning, AR., passed away Monday, February 21, 2011 at home. Mr. Roofe was born in Rector, AR., he was a timber cutter for Black's Lumber Company, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II, he enjoyed gardening and fishing, and was a member of the New Life Family Church.

He married his wife Velma Lois (Herren) Roofe on March 15, 1941. She survives. Other survivors include five children Virginia Little, Mildred Harmon, Linda Meridith, Doyle Roofe and Debbie Wilder all of Corning, AR.; one brother Leon Roofe of Peoria, IL.; four sisters Claudine Jeffery of Chicago, IL., Marcella Shelby of Michigan, Sue Leslie of Granite City, IL., Jean Callahan of St. Charles, MO.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and grea-great-grandchildren.

He was preced in death by parents Ed and Amanda (Birchett) Roofe; one son Charles Roofe; three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gary Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Corning Cemetery. Public visitation will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2011 from 6:00 PM uintil 8:00 PM.
